This is an unpopular question these days, but one that needs to be asked.
The reformers were of one mind on the subject.

I posted an answer to the above post this afternoon, Monday 19-11-2007, at the time there was only the first post from Mark F. I also voted in the poll. I later checked to see if they had gone through and they were both registered and there. I went back later on and found that both the vote and the post had mysteriously disappeared! could someone explain what has happened?

The pope is not the anti christ for a number of reasons. firstly there have been many popes , there will only be one anti christ in the tribulation period after the rapture of the church
In the UK and in great britain the queen has the title of defender of the faith ,....does that make her an anti christ. many protestants in britain look at the queen as head and defender of the church . strange aint it , pope on one side queen on the other ,
Eaglestar, the queen does not claim to be the Vicar of Christ, and claim to be an infallible interpreter of the scriptures. Nor does she claim to be the head of all Christendom.
The pope does not recognize other churches as true churches because they do not accept the "Mass" nor do they accept Him, as the true head of all churches.
Now who is going to be so simple minded as to do that? He wants to rule the world from his throne in Rome. He uses whatever means it takes, as he is like a chamelion. He may appear as an angel of sweetness and light, but when he has you in his clutches, you will find out that he wears a black robe underneath all that white clownish regalia he wears.
Remember Satan is a master at camouflauge, and deceit. If possible he will deceive the very elect. He is the Father of lies!! He looks like a perfect anti-christ to me.
Jesus has been reduced to a piece of bread broken in the hands of a priest. The priest is known as father and the pope is knowsn as the holy father. They are fathers aright. They don't need God or Jesus, as they think they have the world and it's creator in their hands. HA!!!
Our Holy Father in heaven and Jesus have been put into the hands of men to do with as they think? But it is a delusion. God looks at them from heaven and laughs, as he knows the weakness of men and He knows their day is coming.
The whole world is in His Hands, as He is the Creator of Heaven and earth, and will never again give himself into the hands of sinful man. His sacrifice of Himself was a one time sacrifice, never to be repeated again. The Lord's supper, or communion, is to be done in remberance of Him, as oft as we do it. "The flesh profiteth nothing, the words I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life".
The Pope's agenda is to be ruler of the whole world, the civil power and also over all the souls of men.

The Pope is called "The Holy Father" (CALL NO MAN YOUR FATHER, UPON THE EARTH, FOR YOU HAVE ONE HEAVENLY FATHER IN HEAVEN.)
The Pope has "infallibility "claims when he is giving doctrine. ALL MEN ARE SINNERS
The Priests in the RCC claim to have power to turn the bread and wine into the true presence of Jesus, JESUS HAS BEEN GIVEN ALL POWER IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH
The Priest state as they hold up the "wafer", "Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world." JESUS IS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER IN HEAVEN.
The Priest state that the wafer is Jesus, to be worshipped. In other words, the priest has power to crucify Jesus again and again. THEY PLACE THE WAFER IN A MONSTRANCE AND EXPECT THE PEOPLE TO BOW DOWN BEFORE IT AND WORSHIP IT. IDOLATRY AND BLASPHEMY!!!
The Roman Church teaches that if men are to become "priests" they cannot marry. This is not biblical. THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT A PASTOR SHOULD BE THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE.
The Roman Church teaches that to be saved one has to accept the pope as the head of all Christendom, and the mass or eucharist as truly Jesus, and the RCC as True Church. THERE IS ONE HEAD OF THE CHURCH AND THAT IS JESUS CHRIST. THE MASS IS BLASPHEMY, AND HERESY, NOT BIBLICAL JESUS WAS SACRIFICED ONE TIME A NEVER TO BE REPEATED EVENT. COUMMUNION IS DONE IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS. THE BREAD AND WINE STAY BREAD AND WINE. NOONE HAS POWER OVER JESUS.
The Roman Church teaches righteousness in themselves by partaking of the "sacraments of the Roman Church, and receiving and maintaining the Holy Spirit by "grace" infused into them, so that they can perform "good works" that merit salvation. The call it "works done by love" BY WHICH THEY GAIN MERIT BEFORE GOD.
They bow down before the idol of Mary and pray for her to intercede for them THERE IS ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN MAN AND GOD THE MAN CHRIST JESUS. IDOLATRY!!
The Pope still allows the sale of indulgences for the forgiveness of sins. SALVATION IS A FREE GIFT OF GOD GIVEN TO US IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE, THROUGH FAITH ALONE, AND GOD RECEIVES ALL THE GLORY ALONE FOR HIS MERCY AND GRACE GIVEN FREELY TO SINNERS THAT BELIEVE ON HIS SON.
WHAT MORE DO WE NEED TO PROVE THE THE POPE IS THE ANTICHRIST???
THEY DO NOT NEED GOD, JESUS, OR HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS OR SACRIFICE TO BE IMPUTED UNTO THE SINNER, AS THEY BECOME RIGHTEOUS IN THEMSELVES BEFORE GOD THROUGH THE SACRAMENTS OF THE RCC. JESUS IS ONLY A VICTIM IN THE HANDS OF THE PRIEST!!! IT IS ALL A LIE, A DELUSION SENT TO THOSE THAT REFUSE THE TRUE GOSPEL OF JESUS.
Oh I forgot, the priests of the RCC claim they are able to forgive sins, AS THE PEOPLE ARE TO CONFESS TO THEM IN A BOX, and the priest deals out penance and absolution.
Jesus needed???? I think not!!
WHO ONLY IS ABLE TO FORGIVE SINS, BUT GOD ONLY!! ONLY HE HAS THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS AND RESTORATION. WE ARE TO CONFESS OUR SINS TO GOD NOT TO A SINFUL MAN.
ETERNAL LIFE HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR BY THE BLOOD, DEATH, SACRIFICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS OF JESUS. It is free to all those that will believe.
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS THE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST!! EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN MANY POPES THEY ARE PUPPETS IN THE HANDS OF SATAN. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE SATAN WILL BE THE NEXT POPE OR MAYBE THE ONE NOW IS SATAN. WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE. THE POPE IS THE HEAD OF THE SATANIC CHURCH. THAT WOULD BE THE CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT OF SATAN.
Just to let everyone know, I am not yelling by my all caps, it is just for emphasis of importance.
I believe according to the scriptures the Pope is the antichrist, and so do many other Reformers, Calvin, Luther, Spurgeon, and I am sure there are many more. The scriptures are so plain, and there can be no mistake.
It does not matter which pope is the antichrist, it is the office of the Pope that claims to be the vicar of Christ, infallible, the Holy Father, the head of all Christendom, the ruler of all the souls of men, and claims to be head of the only church that supposedly has all the truth. Wrong!!
