Jesus speaks to people in parables. Why?

Matthew 13:
10] And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
[13] Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
[34] All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:
[35] That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Jesus would explain the parables and sayings hard to understand to his disciples, after he spoke them to the people. And why? Because seeing they may not see and hearing they do not hear or understand.

Here is another instance when Jesus spoke to people in words they could not understand, but He explained them to His disciples.

John 6:
53] Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
[54] Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
[55] For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
[56] He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
[57] As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
[58] This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
[59] These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

Here is is explanation:
60] Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
[61] When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
[62] What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
[63] It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
[64] But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
[65] And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
[66] From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

The people that left did not hear, or understand, so they walked with Him no more.

the explanation is this:
Jesus did not literally expect them to drink His blood and eat His flesh, but to study the scriptures, as they testify of Him.
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

The flesh profiteth nothing, the words I speak unto you are spirit and they are life."

Another instance:

32] The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
[33] Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
[34] Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
[35] Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

John 7:
37] In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
[38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
[39] (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Certainly Jesus did not mean that water shall pour out of someone's belly because he believes in Jesus? No, Jesus spake of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive.

There are many other instances where Jesus spoke things for the people to understand but God reveals them to His people by His spirit.

I Corinthians 2:
[7] But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
[8] Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
[9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
[10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
[11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
[13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
[15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
[16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

The Holy Sprit reveal to us things freely given us of God. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned.

RaynaRenee

Jesus is the Focus of all scripture

Jesus is not only the focus of all scripture, but also the scriptures reveal the sinfulness, hopelessness and lost condition of man.

We are all hopeless lost sinners in this world, but God has his mercy and grace upon us when He gave us Jesus. As Jesus is our Righteousness, sanctification, and redemption before Him. He is the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world.

Here is scripture to support what I am saying.

2Tim.3
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

John.5
[39] Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

This is Jesus answer to the woman at the well:
[25] The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
[26] Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

1Cor.15
[1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

2Cor.5
[21] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

John.15
[26] But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Gal.3
[11] But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Jas.2
[23] And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Rom.4
[11] And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
[22] And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
[23] Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
[24] But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that
raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Habb. 2:
...but the just shall live by his faith.

Heb.1
[1] God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
[2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
[3] Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Heb.9
[12] Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Rom.3
[24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Romans 3:
[19] Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
[20] Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
[21] But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
[22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
[23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
[24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
[25] Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
[26] To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
[27] Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

The law is holy and just and good, but the purpose of the law is to condemn us, that we may look to Jesus as our Saviour, our Righteousness, sanctification and redemption before the Father. We live by the law of faith.

Phil 3:
[9] And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Luke 16:
[15] And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

Phil:
5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
[6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
[7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
[8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
[9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
[10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. We are not to worship any man, only Jesus. Even Peter said:
Acts 10:
[25] And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
[26] But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

Again I say, that the purpose of scripture is not to make man righteous in himself before the Father, but to reveal his lost hopeless condition, so that he may rejoice in the gospel of Jesus, who is our righteousness, sanctification and redemption before Him. We are "Accepted in the Beloved", while we remain sinners in ourselves on earth. He respresents every man before the Father that comes to Him, recognizing his hopelessness. the Holy Spirit will reveal Jesus to him.

Col.1
[28] Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

Blessed be the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is His gift to our lost and dying word, that we may have help in this life, peace, mercy, grace, and justification by His imputed righeousness and forgiveness of all our sins by His death through his intercession before the Father in heaven, and the assurance of eternal life to come. I am also grateful for the Holy Spirit which comforts us, guides ,leads us into all truth and will be with us forever. We walk by faith and not by sight.

RaynaRenee
