Vanity Fair visits the Creation Museum

pop culture and fashion, devoted a lengthy article in their February 2010 issue to a review of the
Creation Museum (Answers in Genesis).

To sum it up, the author thinks creationism is for idiots:

Just off a motorway, in a barren and uninspiring piece of scrub, the museum is impressively
incongruous, a righteously modernist building resting in landscaped gardens filled with dinosaur
topiaries. It cost $27 million and was completed in 2007. It answers the famous question about
what God could have done if he had had money. This is it. Oddly, it is a conspicuously and
emphatically secular construction. There is no religious symbolism. No crosses. No stained glass.
No spiral c
ampanile. It has borrowed the empirical vernacular of the enemy to wrap the literal interpretation
of Genesis in the façade of a liberal art gallery or library. It is the Lamb dressed in wolf’s clothing.

The next things I noticed were the very illiberally accoutred security guards. They are absurdly
over-armed, overdressed, and overweight. Perhaps the museum is concerned that armed
radical atheists, maddened by the voices of reason in their confused heads, will storm in
waving the periodic table, screaming, “I think, therefore I am!”

The Creation Museum isn’t really a museum at all. It’s an argument. It’s not even an argument.
It’s the ammunition for an argument. It is the Word made into bullets. An armory of righteous
revisionism. This whole building is devoted to the literal veracity of the first 11 chapters of Genesis:
God created the world in six days, and the whole thing is no more than 6,000 years old. Everything
came at once, so Tyrannosaurus rex and Noah shared a cabin. That’s an awful lot of explaining to do.
This place doesn’t just take on evolution—it squares off with geology, anthropology, paleontology,
history, chemistry, astronomy, zoology, biology, and good taste. It directly and boldly contradicts
most -onomies and all -ologies, including most theology. (emphasis mine)


What the author finds so shocking — that a Christian worldview carries implications for all those
“-onomies” and “-ologies” — is simply a basic understanding that all truth is God’s truth, and that
everything in the created world falls under the sovereign rule of the Lord Jesus Christ.

believe in God, and believe we live in His sight in whatever we do.  God sees,
hears, and knows all about us and our lives.  We canot hide from God. We are
to live for Him in this world, and repent daily, as we all sin.

Also it means that God will always do what is right, and the judgment of the
wicked, those that reject the gospel of His Son, and those that have no fear
of God, will be justly punished.  He will give them the rewards of their lives.  
They refuse the offer of mercy and grace given to them in the gospel, and
do not believe in Jesus or God's judgment against those that refuse to believe.

Therefore, they live as they please in this world.  They do not believe that
God disciplines His children, and neither do they care what God thinks.  
They do not fear God or His word.

Truly no one is perfect, but the more we know of God, His greatness, and
majesty, and the truth of His word, the more we want to serve Him in this
world.  

He also speaks about the "fear of man" being put in the place of God.
Instead of fearing and believing God, people fear men and what they think.
They look to other men to help them, instead of God.
We give to others what is not rightfully theirs, but belongs to God alone.
We are not to fear man, but respect authority, and fear God alone.

But even if we are ordered to
do wrong legally, we are not to do it.  We are not to fear man, but to fear God
alone.  We are not to worry about what man can do to us.  We are to do what
is  right aat all times.

I also heard him say, that even if the poor are not doing what is right, we are
not to take sides with them.  There are godly poor and rich, and there are the
wicked poor and rich, (those that refuse to know God and repent of their sins)
We are to do what is right in the sight of God at all times.  Being poor is no virtue.

I will post the name of the sermon and the pastor later so others can listen to

- A Washington woman was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison and five years of supervised release for her role in an Internet counterfeit check scheme.

Edna Fiedler pleaded guilty in March to attempting to defraud U.S. citizens in a scheme known as a Nigerian check scam.

Fiedler helped her accomplices in Nigeria send fake checks to people who had agreed to cash the checks on behalf of the sender, keeping some of the proceeds and sending the rest back.

The Nigerians found people willing to cash the fake checks via e-mail. They would send their names as well as fake documents that looked like Wal-Mart money orders, Bank of America checks, U.S. Postal Service checks and American Express traveler's checks to Fiedler. They told her how to fill out the checks and where to send them.

The recipients most likely thought they were helping out someone who needed a person in the U.S. to cash a check for them, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. They were able to get the money by cashing the checks, and sent most of it to either Fiedler or her Nigerian accomplices. However, once the checks were discovered to be fake, the people who cashed them were responsible for the full amount.

All told, Fiedler sent out US$609,000 worth of phony checks and money orders. When U.S. Secret Service agents investigating the case searched Fiedler's house, they found additional fake checks worth more than $1.1 million that she was preparing to send out.

At a recent conference in Seattle, a representative from the U.S. Postal Service and Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna described ways they're working to shut down these kinds of scams, particularly because they often involve people who don't realize that they're taking part in illegal activities.

The U.S. Postal Service recently sent 15 postal investigators to Lagos, Nigeria, and during a three-month period there, they helped intercept counterfeit checks, lottery tickets and eBay overpayment schemes with a face value of $2.1 billion, Chris Siouris, a cyber investigator at the U.S. Postal Inspector, said at the recent conference. Siouris, McKenna and others are pushing for ways to better educate Internet users so that people don't unwittingly help out in these kinds of e-mail scams.
